Since the University of Pittsburgh relies on their undergraduate student body converging in Oakland from all over the world, there are severe consequences for bringing them back to campus, as well as ushering them away. Due to this situation, the University of Pittsburgh is grappling with the question of how to deliver undergraduate classes in the fall. In an effort to make the best decision for the University of Pittsburgh, a BOCR analysis and model will conducted to help them decide the best course of action.

Model 2.72: ANP BOCR - Post-Pandemic Work Scheduling at a Pittsburgh-Based Engineering Office (2020)
The purpose of this project is to predict what the “new normal” work schedule should look like for the R&D workforce at a Pittsburgh metro-based organization. Using a BOCR ANP framework and the perspective of the director of engineering, four alternative work arrangements are evaluated: a full return to the office, a 50/50 hybrid schedule with mandated days, a 50/50 hybrid schedule with flexible days, and a fully flexible schedule. The results suggest that the best short-term and long-term results may be different, opening an interesting discussion for R&D leadership on the future of work and implications for organizational cultural norms.

In this case, I am imagining a scenario in which the brain trust at Google Health is considering developing a machine learning powered voice transcription service that doctors can utilize in their appointments to reduce paperwork burden. This would be marketed directly to hospital systems to be used in their doctor’s appointments. Alternatively, Google Health may also choose to acquire a start-up in the same field or defer on this decision for now and pursue other opportunities. In order to broker a decision, I constructed an AHP model utilizing a Benefits, Cost, Opportunity, and Risk construction underneath four primary strategic criteria. These strategic goals are competitive advantage, new growth, innovation, and corporate reputation.

Model 4.7: ANP BOCR - Should The U.S. Eliminate the Penny?
This study determined whether the US should discontinue the penny. The decision was made using a complex ANP model with BOCR (Benefits, Opportunities, Costs, and Risks) merit. The model overwhelmingly indicated that eliminating the penny is the best option. The costs associated with penny elimination may be numerous, and the public’s nostalgia for the penny may run deep, but these concerns are heavily outweighed by the benefits. The penny should be eliminated. The study was done in the year of 2012.

In the last year, the City of Pittsburgh has experienced a sort of renaissance with the completion of two new stadiums. PNC Park and Heinz Field are the new homes of the Pirates baseball team and the Steelers football team, respectively. In keeping with this momentum of growth in the “entertainment” arena, Mario Lemieux, Pittsburgh’s most famous professional hockey player, has made a personal effort to upgrade the hockey franchise of the Pittsburgh Penguins. This analysis was designed to answer the question of whether the City of Pittsburgh should support such an investment.

This project aims to predict the winner of 2003`s World Series. The World Series began to be played in 1903, making 2003 the 100th anniversary of the event. The eight teams in this year‘s playoffs have made it there by winning their division or by being one of the wild cards from each league. The wild card is the team that has the best record but does not win its division. The basis of the model is statistical data collected for each of the playoff teams. These stats measure traits that the key abilities required to win the World Series have been identified.
