City planners and baseball teams enthusiastically advocated building a smaller scale baseball stadium in center city. Philadelphia’s baseball team, The Phillies, had been sharing the stadium with the football team, the Eagles for years. Now, the trend gave the Phillies an opportunity to ask for support from the government to build a new ballpark. Location of the new stadium became a heated debate.
